Counseling

International Student Counselor is available to meet with you to discuss your academic, career and personal goals.

How To Schedule An Appointment with a Counselor:

You can schedule a counseling appointment by calling the Counseling office at 562-938-4560 or going to the Counseling and Student Development office located in Builing A (Liberal Arts Campus only). You must request to see an international student counselor (Judy Oh).

All students must have an LBCC student ID in order to make a Counseling Appointment.
You may obtain a student ID by completing and submitting the Admissions application.

What to Bring to the Appointment:

At the time of your appointment, you must check in at the Counseling department with a student ID. Please bring your curriculum guide, ABC GE guide and previous educational plan if you have one. As you start your education at LBCC, it is a good idea to keep ALL of your paperwork in a folder. At the time of the appointment, simply bring the folder with all of your documents.

How To Prepare for an Appointment:

If you have attended other colleges and/or universities prior to attending LBCC, you must submit official (unopened) transcripts to the Admissions and Records Office at least two weeks prior to your appointment time. Having your trancripts will assist the counselor to properly select your courses.

Writing out all the questions you have prior to the appointment will assist you and the counselor in making sure that all of your concerns/questions are addressed at the time of the appointment.

Why Make an Appointment?

It is very important for you to meet with the international student counselor to develop an educational plan. In order to keep up with the changing requirements, you must meet with a counselor on a regular basis. We recommend meeting with a counselor at least once each semester to develop an educational plan to meet your academic and career goals.

What is an Online Counseling?

International Student Counselor is available online to answer questions for any general academic, transfer and career-related concerns. Please navigate the site, read questions and answers posted on the Hot Topics forum before submitting a question.

If you have specific questions regarding your I-20, employment or other specialized immigration questions, you must make an appointment with Denise Kinsella or Dolores Franco in the International Student Office. Please call 562-938-4745 to schedule an appointment.
